The Faucons headed into the last two weekends of the season with the toughest challenges to date. The first being the PSHF League Championships March 1st to 3rd.
The Faucons went a perfect 4-0 in the round robin with victories against OHA (2-0), Blyth Cougars (4-3), Everest Academy (7-0) and College Andre Grasset (2-1).
Heading into the semifinal, the Faucons would face first place Victus Academy, who were the team to beat this season. After going up 2-0 in the first period, Victus made it a game through the third period creating an OT battle to determine who would play in the championship game.
After a very suspect missed offside call in the first minutes of OT, Victus scored and won 4-3.
The Faucons didn’t have much time to recover after their tough loss, heading to Toronto for the prestigious NISIC Showcase from March 7th through 10th.
The Faucons again got off to a great start, winning their first two games. Their first test was against PSHF Champions A21 Academy and came away with a hard fought 1-0 victory.
The second game was versus KES and the Faucons won in dominant fashion by a score of 5-2.
Their next challenge would come against St Mike’s College, who the Faucons beat 4-0 earlier this year. The game was very physical, and the Faucons failed to capitalize on 5 powerplay opportunities in the first two periods. The team never seemed to be able to take control of the game and in the end, St Mike’s pulled out a 3-1 victory, which included an empty net goal.
This ended the Faucons chance of advancing to the championship rounds. The Faucons finished the tournament against the number 7th ranked RNS and were able to get the win 2-1.
The Faucons finished the season with 37 wins and 22 losses.
The Faucons players will now spend the next six weeks training and preparing themselves for the Junior A tryouts which will take place throughout the months of April, May and June.
